Suburban Secure launches a free cyber security check
Suburban Australia’s dedicated security service, Suburban Secure, has launched a free cyber security check for businesses, charities and not-for-profits across Australia.
The idea is deliberately simple: enter an organisation or domain, receive an immediate plain-English result, and find out what its public email, DNS and website signals are saying. There is no signup, no account to maintain and no obligation.
This tool reflects why Suburban Secure exists. Smaller organisations carry real responsibility and public trust, but they do not always have a security specialist available to translate technical records into useful decisions. A charity board, church treasurer, community leader or business owner should not need to understand every DNS acronym before asking whether somebody can fake the organisation’s email.
The free check looks for public signals around SPF, DMARC and DKIM email authentication, DNS and domain control, website HTTPS and certificate health, reverse DNS, and public spam blocklists. If a recent result exists it can be reused; when information is stale, the service refreshes the public website, DNS and email checks where possible.
There are two ways to begin. Charities and not-for-profits can search by ABN or ACNC-listed organisation name. Businesses can enter their business name and domain directly, with an ABN optional. The underlying check is the same; the starting point is simply designed for the person using it.
It also addresses a very common reality. Websites, domains and mailboxes are usually configured once—often years ago, sometimes by someone who is no longer involved—and then left alone while the organisation gets on with its work. Settings drift, certificates lapse and ownership becomes unclear. That does not mean the original work was poor. It means security needs checking over time.
We are equally clear about what the tool cannot do. This is not a penetration test or vulnerability assessment. Public signals cannot reveal backup health, administrator access, multi-factor authentication coverage or the quality of a vendor handover. Those issues belong in a proper leadership technology review. The free result is a genuine starting point, not a substitute for deeper work.
